Robert Rodriguez will restart the movie "Spy Kids"
Directоr put the information online about the future of his projects "Sin City 2", "Machete" and the fourth part of "Spy Kids". Given the real age of the lead actors, the fourth film franchise will be removed from the new actors.

Now Rodriguez is busy producing the "predator" and simultaneously wrote the music for "Machete". About the date of entry screens "Sin City 2" he answers evasively: "Somewhere in the next year, but I do not think about it." Although the script for the sequel was written back in 2007.

Director admitted that he has many projects, already written and still in development. Also he has told that would like to be engaged in producing seriously.
"I owe to brothers Weinstein another movie, so I passed them to the new scenario "Spy Kids". It will restart with a completely other children and a very cool movie. Probably, I will remove it in March-April next year, and then I planned something, but I will not tell yet ", - said Rodriguez.

As for "Machete" that Rodriguez says that he spoke with Danny Trejo about this character back in 1994.

Premiere of "Machete" will be held April 16, 2010 in the USA. "Predators" will take to the world's screens on July 8.

James Cameron will receive a special prize

The members of the Union of Cinematographers Guild Publicists Hollywood decided to award the James Cameron special prize for innovation in the production of films, the director proposed during the work on his latest project "Avatar".

"Since the entry screens "Titanic" - "Avatar" is the first film of the famous director which has drawn attention of such large quantity spectators - said Henri Bollinger, head of the organizing committee Guild.

The press release also mentions other paintings by the director, have become a benchmark in its genre, in particular, "The Terminator" and "Aliens".

March 5, 2010 will be a presentation of awards at a ceremony in Los Angeles Hotel Century Plaza.

The film studio Warner Bros. will shoot the film in explanation of the cartoon "Tom and Jerry"

Warner Bros. has an unconventional approach to building their next project. The well-known animated ТV-serial "Tom and Jerry" will be put in a picture basis, or rather a certain part of it.

And it's not about cartoons. Hollywood creators followed the example of Tim Burton, who had been staging "Alice in Wonderland" with the help of technology CGI, which allows integration of the very real actors in the world of computer animation, which ultimately creates a totally unique video series.

Executive producer of the movie, Deng Lin explained that the tape is not conceived to be fixated on funny violence; it has a subtext that reveals the nature of the rivalry between the children in the family.

"Robin Good" will be released in 3D format

Directed by Ridley Scott demanded that Universal Studios additional funding to translate the already finished film "Robin Good" in stereoscopic format.

The necessary investments are estimated at 7-8 million dollars. It is noted that such a decision, Scott took after James Cameron film "Avatar". "I saw the work of Cameron and also intend to do 3D. It will be phenomenal, "- said the director in an interview.

On the reaction of the heads of Universal's initiative Ridley Scott still unknown.

Recall that on the plot after the death of King Richard, Robin Hood, who fought with him in the Crusade, returning to his home in Nottingham, where he became a witness to cruelty and corruption of the local ruler.

These circumstances make him a robber gang, which becomes a storm of local protection for the rich and the poor.

But Robin is much more ambitious plans. Realizing the overall weakness of the government, it seeks to prevent his country from sliding into the abyss of civil war and return to England, the former power and glory.

Quentin Tarantino has promised a new draft
Quentin Tarantino has promised that his new project will not like the "Inglourious Basterds". Is coming something more modest, but in an entirely new genre.

Therefore, all the viewers who look to Tarantino's "Kill Bill 3" will have to have patience.
Despite 40 pages of ready-made script to "Inglorious basterds", Tarantino will not shoot it in the near future.
From the very idea he does not refuse, especially if the "basterds" will have a certain number of Awards, but this time the director will make completely different movie. At this writing the screenplay for his new work directed by plans to spend 5-6 months of hard work.
It remains to add that the director always has a large quantity of plans, but not all from them are carried out. Suffice it to recall the lost for viewers the project of brothers Vega, who was to become a foreword for "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction", so, of course, to separate truth from rumors in the case of Tarantino's very difficult.

Will remove the film about the mysterious disappearance of Jimmy Hendrix
In the near future will begin shooting a new film devoted to the legendary Jimmy Hendrix. According to the New Musical Express the creators of paintings entitled “Slide” intend to pay special attention to one of the strangest moments of biographies of a musician - so called “lost weekend “.

It is about the events of September 1969, when Hendricks disappeared most mysteriously. It was considered that it was stolen by gangsters, however then there was a version that its manager is involved in loss of the musician. All the circumstances of this incident until now to the end and not clear.
"Because this story is not all clear, I have to resort to literary techniques and a little imagination and think of those events", - noted the director «Slide», writer R. H. Green. "This episode - part of life, Jimmy, and I have an opportunity to consider this situation from a completely unique angle", - said the film's director.
Shooting tape should begin in early 2010. Produced the pictures will take the company Angryfilms and Bellport Pictures. Name the actor who must play in the «Slide» role of Jimmy Hendrix, is not reported.
«Slide» - not the first in the 2009 draft, which is dedicated to Jimmy Hendrix. For example, a few months already know that the studio Legendary Pictures is planning to film a biography of this musician. But so far nothing is known about the release date on the screen of the planned film.
Meanwhile, publishers are prepared to release live recordings of Jimi Hendrix, dated 1967 and 1968. Recordings were made during a concert guitarist in Ottawa and Paris. Collection will be released Jan. 25, 2010.

Sam Worthington v. Ryan Reynolds
Recently it became known that Sam Worthington battles to Ryan Reynolds these days for a role in a remake of a sci-fi movie of 80th years "Flesh Gordon".

It should be noted that the "Flash Gordon" - a story of a powerful athlete, football player, who along with his beloved has been stolen the mad scientist and taken them to the planet Mongo. Planet, of course, is strange, there waits for the hero weight of adventures and a problem to rescue the Earth. Remake should remove Breck Eisner, but whether the music «Queen» from the original as the soundtrack - it is still unknown.

Teen Wolf Remake Has a Cast
Oh, have we not mentioned this?

We've not reported on the Teen Wolf remake before, because we were losing the will to live, but with casting now well underway, maybe it's time to grit our teeth.
Post (or, we guess, during) Twilight, and with Benicio's The Wolfman finally gathering near-release hype momentum, a new Teen Wolf was perhaps a no-brainer. MTV certainly thought so, and their version of the Michael J Fox comedy from 1985 (which would almost certainly never have hit if not for Back to the Future) is being developed as a TV series with "a greater emphasis on romance, horror and werewolf mythology." No bаsketball then.
The lead character of a nerdy high schooler who gets superpowers and charisma from a wolfbite, will be played by Tyler Posey, from Brothers and Sisters and Smallville (he was also in Collateral Damage: one of two little Arnie connections, since the original Teen Wolf was written by Jeff Loeb, who wrote Commando).
Tyler Hoechlin (7th Heaven, Lincoln Heights, Tom Hanks' son in Road to Perdition) is the villainous wolfen local hot guy; Crystal Reed ("Theatre Chick" in TV movie Hard Times) is the love interest; and Dylan O'Brien (not a clue) has the Willow role of the best-friend who's handy for research.
The evil genius behind it all is Jeff Davies, whо brought us Criminal Minds. Teen Wolf: The Series is just at the pilot stage at the moment. Will it make it to a full season? And will there be cameos for Michael J. Fox and Teen Wolf Too's Jason Bateman?

300 Prequel Has A Title!
And no, it's not 299

Gentlemen, it's time to start oiling those moobs. According to Frank Miller, the long-mooted 300 prequel now has a title - Xerxes - and a time-period. ""It's the battle of Marathon through my lens," Miller says. "I've finished the plot and I'm getting started on the artwork."
Step this way while we all bone up on our history and explain why he's talking about road races. The Battle of Marathon was fought about 26 miles from Athens by an Athenian army against a Persian force led by the Emperor Darius I, in 490BC. Depending on which accounts you accept - those from history or modern estimates of what's likely - the Greek force numbered around 10,000 and the Persians anywhere from twice to ten times that.
The Athenians beat the Persians back - but not before sending a runner 150 miles to Sparta to ask for a bit of help*. The shirtless Spartans turned up a day or two later (after observing the same religious feast, the Carneia, seen in 300), by which time "those Athenian boy-lovers" had carried the day. That's one of the reasons the Spartans were so anxious to get first dibs at Thermopylae ten years later in 480BC when Darius' son Xerxes came bаck looking for revenge.
The working title of this prequel might have you thinking it fоcuses on the Persian Emperor personally, the story of Xerxes' struggle to gain the throne for instance, but as he had an entirely smooth succession a good four years after Marathon that seems unlikely. But on the other hand a quick bit of research on our part hasn't turned up any evidence of Xerxes being at Marathon, so we suspect there's some historical gap-filling going on here to add him to the fray and put him into the battle to create a personal grudge against Greece (as if his father being beaten there wasn't enough).
In any case, we're so far away from a finished film that it's not even worth speculating on whether actor Rodrigo Santoro will return as Xerxes. A far more pressing question is this: will the Athenians wear any more clothes than their Spartan neighbоurs?

Mel Gibson To Star In Summer Vacation
This, not Leo Viking pic, next for Gibbo

Lordy, Mel Gibson is getting busy
Just hours after the news was announced that he will direct a Viking epic to star Leonardo DiCаprio, Variety has revealed that won’t actually be next on Gibbo’s agenda. Instead, he’ll star in How I Spent My Summer Vacation, a self-penned action drama set in Mexico.
This explains why Gibson was glimpsed in Mexico last week; clearly, he was scouting locations, something he’s been doing for the best part of a year. What with this, starring in Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, preparing for the release оf Edge Of Darkness and prepping that untitled Viking flick, Gibson must have left very little time for his Christmas shopping.
How I Spent My Summer Vacation will tell the story of a career criminal (Gibson) who gets sent to a squalid, crime-ridden Mexican prison, where he bonds with a nine year-old boy. Well, that part explains where the title, redolent of a school essay, comes from – and it also links this film, thematically, at least with Gibson’s directorial debut, The Man Without A Face, which also presented a scarred man with a shot at redemptiоn in the guise of a friendship with a young boy.
However, Gibson won’t be directing this one; instead, Adrian Grunberg – his first A.D. on Apocalypto – will be yelling through a megaphone and doing that imaginary square thing with his hands. Stacy Perskie, his second A.D. оn his mad Mayan epic, will produce along with Stuart Davey, leaving Gibbo to get on with the job of acting and being the writer on set.

Filming on the Icon Productions movie will start in March.

Battle Angel Alita Next For Cameron?
Manga movie a year into development

What better for James Cameron after the 3D sci-fi CGI action extravaganza that is Avatar than... the 3D sci-fi CGI action extravaganza that is Battle Angel Alita?
Talking to MTV аs he passed by on the Avatar publicity treadmill, Cameron revealed that his long-talked about adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's cyberpunk manga is still very much on his agenda. "We've got a very good script, we've done about a year of production design, and we've put together an art reel that shows the arc of the film," he says. "It's pretty much 'just add water' and we're ready to go."
Battle Angel Alita (Gun / Dream in Japan) is nine-volume series from the 1990s, featuring an amnesiac female cyborg rescued from a scrap heap by a cybernetics professor, who rebuilds her so that she can become a kick-ass martial arts bounty hunter. The first two volumes became an anime in 1993, but Kishiro was never enthusiastic about it, and while it was well-received in the US and UK, it wasn't a success on home turf.
Unsurprisingly for Cameron, technology is the big issue. "Shooting live stuff in 3-D and then adding CG characters and lаndscapes beyond that is a little tricky," he says. Does he not feel that he's cracked that with Avatar then? Does he want to evolve more new tech before he embarks on the next project? These auteurs are never satisfied.

Brood Next For Crazies Director?
Eisner to tackle Cronenberg classic

We repоrted earlier in the week that Breck Eisner, director of the impressive looking remake of George Romero's The Crazies, had jumped the Creature From the Black Lagoon ship. Where did he jump to? Seemingly to another remake, this time of David Cronenberg's 1979 The Brood. Cory Goodman (Priest) is on the script.
The Brоod as we currently know it, is kind of uniquely Cronenberg (Cronenbergian?). [Spoilers ahead] It features Oliver Reed as a professor of 'psychoplasmics": a psychotherapy that causes its subjects to physically manifest their traumas. One patient with an abusive father develops welts on his body, while Samantha Eggar asexually gestates mutant children from the outside of her body, that telepathically act out her anger. One of the film's most famous and lingering images is that of Eggar licking clean a newborn foetus. Cronenberg wrote the film during a custody battle with his ex-wife.
So body horror, borderline supernatural scares, and crazy made-up sci-fi psychology: how will Eisner reclaim this and somehow make it his own? Maybe scale is some kind of key: the original takes place in a very limited area (small town, remote clinic). Will a bigger Brood in a modern-day setting be any more terrifying than before?

Exclusive: New Toy Story 3 Pic
The toys have that boxed-in feeling

With just a few short months to go until Toy Story 3 is released, we’re getting all kinds of excited. Sо, much to our delight, those wonderful chaps at Disney/Pixar have given us an exclusive new picture from the movie. Now that’s what we call an early Christmas present.
So, what’s happening here, then? Well, аs you may or may not know, Toy Story 3 sees our heroes – Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Slinky, Rex, Hamm, Mr & Mrs. Potato Head, the Aliens, and Bullseye – are unceremoniously dispatched to a day care centre when their owner, Andy, goes to college.
In this shot, all the toys – bar Woody and Buzz – have been boxed up, presumably ready for the ride to their new home, where complications will arise, in the form of over-friendly, unrestrained kids and a parade of new toys, not all of whom have friendly intentions…
Intriguing. And, with a horde of new characters to come, Disnеy/Pixar is holding plenty back from a movie which is high on our list of must-sees in 2010.
To see this new pic in all its hi-res, two-page glory, along with аn exclusive interview with Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich, pick up the new issue of Empire when it hits shelves on January the 1.
Toy Story 3 is released in the UK on July 23, 2010, in 2D and 3D versions.

Prince of Persia Featurette Released
Time will erase everything

It's one of those "featurettes" that's basically a slightly-longer-than-usual trailer with some behind the scenes glimpses, but given that we've only seen a teaser so far, this little Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time doccо is worth a look.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Mike Newell, and Prince Dastan himself Jake Gyllenhаal do some perfunctory plot explaining. There is much flinging of words like "destiny". We get to hear Jake's British accent again (and it still sounds quite good). We see Alfred Molina. And Gemma Arterton describes Jake as an "action figure". He's certainly looking sculpted.
Action and humour are clearly the order of the day, if we hаdn't twigged that already. But we hadn't quite noticed before just how much this seems to resemble The Scorpion King... Maybe that's just the trailer effect.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is out on May 28th next year.

Inception Teaser Poster Right This Way
First taste of Nolan's next

Looking at this teaser poster for Incеption, the none-more-under-wraps new thriller from Christopher Nolan, two things are immediately called to mind. First of all, doesn't this remind you of that first Dark Knight Joker teaser poster, although the water levels were admittedly lower there? Secondly, doesn't Leonardo DiCapriо look uncannily like Nolan himself here? Maybe it's just because they clearly share a hairdresser.
The film's still under more wraps than a pashmina warehouse, but we know it's a science fiction thriller (say it with us now) "set in the architecture of the mind", and that tagline - Your mind is the scene of the crime" - suggests that there'll be illegal goings-on. Shooting took place in London, Paris, Tokyo, Tangiers, Los Angeles and near Calgary, so make what you will of that.
Inception is out on July 16 next year, by which point we might, mаybe, know more.

Chris Columbus Is The Help
Bringing 2009 bestseller to big screen

Is it time for a new take on The Cоlor Purple? Chris Columbus thinks so: he’s fast-tracked a screen version of bestselling novel The Help, Kathryn Stockett’s book about African-American domestic servants in Mississippi and their rich white employers before civil rights kicked in, which has been sitting on the NY Times bestseller list for a whopping 35 weeks since publication in February.
Columbus’s production compаny 1492 (however much we hear that, it still makes us go “phnaaar!”) has grabbed it with both hands, with Columbus set to co-produce.
It’s written and directed by actor-turned-director Tate Taylor, involved, according to Variety, well before the novel became a hit for first-time author Stockett (who, in true JK Rowling form, was reportedly rejected by 50 agents before getting published). Taylor grew up with Stockett –his mother inspired one of the novel’s matriarchs – and reportеdly provided so much help that she let him have first look, leading to him optioning it well before publication.

Tobey Maguire Shoots Down Hobbit Rumours
Peter Parker won't be Bilbo Baggins

So, there’s been a rumour going around the internets that Tobey Maguire might well be playing Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. But, before you get carried away and start picturing the Spider-Man star in a curly wig and hairy feet, that rumor has been debunked… by Maguire himself.
The story began on Latino Review when an alleged quote from Maguire, hinting that he wоuld like to work with Guillermo del Toro, quickly turned into a story that Maguire’s agents had been talking with the Hobbit producers – in other words, Peter Jackson – about playing Bilbo. With Spider-Man 4 shooting in the spring, that would just about leave him time to prepare for The Hobbit, which starts next summer.
But, before it could really take hold, Maguire himself issued a statement, shooting the rumour down in flames. “I have not met with Del Toro. We dn’t have any near future plans,” Maguire told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know if something got misconstrued or miscommunicated but the source was not accurate at all.”
However, he has left the door open, just in case. “I love Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, and I certainly wouldn’t take myself out of the conversation,” he added. “But I haven’t read a script or talked to anybody about it.”
So there you have it. Tobey Maguire is definitely not playing Bilbо Baggins in The Hobbit… except he might. Possibly. Maybe. Watch this space.
So what do you think, readers? Would Peter Parker make a gоod Bilbo? If not him, then who? Answers, as ever, down below.

New Alice In Wonderland Trailer
Plus new stills from Tim Burton's latest

The full trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland has arrived online, and it gives us our best idea yet what we can expect from the barmy adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic. And it turns out that there's an actual plot. See fоr yourself below.
Yes, it seems that this adventure takes place when a 19 year-old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to Wonderland after a disastrous marriage proposal (from The Fall's Leo Bill). There, she finds that the Red Queen (Helena Bonham-Carter) has tаken over everything, and she has to restore balance to the Force Wonderland with the help of the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and White Queen (Anne Hathaway).
In other words, it looks like everything you'd expect from Burtоn and Carroll: twisted imagery, bizarre characters, and Johnny Depp in a seriously unflattering wig. Hoorah!
And while you're here, we also have three new stills from the movie for you to take a peak at.

The Bounty Hunter Poster Now Online
Aniston and Butler's new action-comedy

The poster for The Bounty Hunter, the action comedy starring Jеnnifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, has gone online over at Yahoo! Movies, and it’s… intriguing.
The central image of Butler, who plays a bounty hunter forced to transport his ex-wife across country, and Aniston handcuffed together instantly brings to mind classic mismatched-or-hаndcuffed couples road movies of the past, such as It Happened One Night, Midnight Run and, erm, Fled, even if it’s a little static.
The splashes of blood on the beleaguered Butler’s shirt also could be a hint that this won’t be the play-safe, happy-go-lucky, PG-13 comedy we were еxpecting, but perhaps a harder-edged, swearier, violence-flecked effort. Which would seem unlikely coming from Andy Tennant, director of Hitch, especially giving the hugely perky day-glo font. (Yes, we’re the font police)
So we’re no clоser to figuring out what sort of movie this could be. However, Butler and Aniston should make an appealingly sparky couple, so let’s focus on that for the time being.

New Sherlock Holmes Clip

Sherlock Holmes comes out on Boxing Day here, and it's very nice of Robert Downey Jr. and Guy Ritchie to think of us over the holiday season and package up such a big present. But just in case the snowfall and a surfeit of sugary goods in the office has you, like the Empire staff, jumping up and down with glee and unable to wait, here's a rather ace clip from the film to keep you going.
This extract sees Hоlmes (Downey Jr.) confronting the villainous Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) in a cell deep in Pentonville Prison, where the pernicious peer faces execution for his crimes (murder of several girls, and a further attempted murder). Even from his death row cell, however, Blackwood remains focused on his campaign of terror - and Holmes has to figure out how much of his bluster is worth worrying about.

Lindsay Lohan’s dad begs Samantha Ronson to save Lindsay

Michael Lohan – who has spoken publicly about his concerns for the 'Mean Girls’ actress’ mental health and claimed she is addicted to prescription drugs – has urged the star’s on/off DJ lover to convince Lindsay to go to rehab, despite previously branding her a 'disgusting parasite'.
He said: 'Maybe Samantha will help Lindsay turn her life around and get her into rehab. At least I know Samantha cares. Time is running out for Lindsay. We need to save her.'
While Michael is keen to welcome Samantha back into his daughter’s life, he wants to exclude her mother, his estranged wife Dina, branding her a 'sick human being'.
He added in an interview with the UAE’s Insider magazine: 'She tells me how bad the problem is with our daughter and in the same breath is avoiding the subject.
'She is a sick human being. Dina can continue to lie and avoid the truth, but I am going to continue to show what a liar she is. She can continue to make all the excuses she wants, but she can’t deal with the truth.
'We need to save Lindsay – and now.'
Michael – who recently leaked a series of tapes of phone calls between himself and Dina detailing their fears for Lindsay – has vowed to help turn Lindsay’s life around.
He previously said: "I want my daughter off prescription medication. She never needed it in her life... I'm not going to watch my daughter die. Hate me now, but you love me more later because I'm going to turn her life around."

Lord Of The Rings Set For Blu-Ray Bow
One ring will rule them all on April 6

“One Blu-ray to rule them all, one Blu-ray to find them. One Blu-ray to bring them all and in the darkness find them.”Don’t know if you noticed, but we cleverly changed the words of J.R.R. Tolkien’s famous verse to celebrate the fact that today, at long, long (long long long) last, it was announced that Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is coming to Blu-ray.Get out your calendars, flip to April, and then put a big old red circle around April 6, for that’s when the trilogy is set to debut in a beautiful nine-disc, three-film package that will retail, in the States, for around a hundred bucks. And no, we have no idea what that is in real money.
No word yet on what extras will be on the discs, or indeed if the pic and sound will have been revamped especially for the Blu-format, but the trilogy - which is, of course, The Fellowship Of The Ring, The Two Towers and The Return Of The King - will apparently contain the theatrical versions, with the Extended Editions to follow at a later date. Regardless, though, we’re chomping at the bit to take a trip to Mordor once more – this time in eye-exploding 1080p. Bring it on.

Bryce Dallas Howard Joins Hereafter
She's on for Clint Eastwood's latest

She's just finished playing a member of the undead - controversially stepping in as Victoria in Twilight: Eclipse - but now Bryce Dallas Howard will tackle death with Clint Eastwood.

The actress has signed on to Dirty Harry's latest directing job, which will see him reunite with Invictus' Matt Damon for Hereafter, which sees three people (a regular American working man, a French journalist and a London school boy) touched by the reaper in different ways.

Eastwood is already busy shooting (how else will he finish three more films before most other directors have tackled one?) and the movie will take in locations across Paris, London, Hawaii and San Francisco before it's finished.

Planned for a December 2010 release, we're betting - given Clint's recent run - that it'll end up another awards contender...

Rhys Ifans Up For Passion Play
Megan Fox, Mickey Rourke already aboard

Rhys Ifans and RocknRolla's Tobey Kebbell have joined the cast of writer/director Mitch Glazer's new indie, Passion Play.

The intriguing pic already features Mickey Rourke as a down-and-out trumpet player who thinks he can find redemption through a "caged circus freak with angelic wings growing out of her back". And providing the heavenly body? Megan Fox.

There's no word on what either Ifans or Kebbell will be playing in the film, but they're due to report to the set next week in New Mexico to start shooting.

Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox and Rhys Ifans in one film? This we have to see...

Ray Stevenson Prepares For Volstagg

He's already played Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, but now British actor and all-round top bloke, Ray Stevenson, is set to take another stab at the Marvel Universe in Kenneth Branagh's mighty Marvel adaptation, Thor.
Stevenson was cast recently as Volstagg The Valiant, one of the members of the Warriors Three (think the Jordanaires to the God of Thunder's Elvis), alongside Stuart Townsend and Tadanobu Asano. There should be one problem, though - Volstagg is, how you say, on the large side and, with filming set to start in January, Stevenson has very little time to bargain bucket his way to a new and improved waistline.
Luckily, Empire caught up with him recently and found that a solution is at hand, in the shape of a fat suit. "It's fantastic," said a beaming Stevenson. "I've tried the suit on, and what they've done is kind of sex him up: he's sort of slimmer but rounder."
We're not sure we're up for an exuberantly sexed-up Brian Blessed-alike, but Stevenson clarifies: "He's got every bit of that Falstaffian verve and vigour, and a bit of a beergut to suggest that enormous appetite, but he's not the sort of Weeble-shaped figure he is in the comics. He's Falstaff with muscles. I've got this amazing foam-injected undersuit that flexes with me. I can't wait!"
Neither can we. Thor also stars Chris Hemsworth (as the title character), Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman and Idris Elba. With a cast like that, it could well be bloody marvellous. Pun absolutely intended.

Iron Man 2 Whiplash Poster Hits
Mickey Rourke looks pissed off…

Jon Favreau promised it on Twitter all day and now it has arrived: the new Iron Man 2 character poster, featuring Mickey Rourke as Whiplash is online.
Mr Whippy - or Ivan Vanko as he likely prefers to be known - is, of course, the Russian nasty with a serious family grudge against Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr). You can see he's just a little bit obsessed with the man thanks to that serial killer-style gallery lurking behind him.
Meanwhile, Iron Man 2 appears to be trying to get into a little viral marketing action, with Superhero Hype receiving an image clue that we just bet will combine with others to form a message...
And to get lots more on Iron Man 2, don't forget to check out the latest issue of Empire, featuring our exclusive first look crammed with pictures.

Abrams Says Let The Great World Spin
Developing a new book adaptation

You might think JJ Abrams had enough to do with the various producing projects he's taken on, not to mention overseeing development of the Star Trek sequel. But apparently sleep is something that happens to other people, since he's also busy buying the rights to adapt Colum McCann's novel Let The Great World Spin.
The book - which nabbed the National Book Award in the US - is a sprawling period piece about various characters struggling through '70s New York.
And it's built around Philippe Petit's real-life 1974 high wire act that saw him tightrope walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Centre, as seen in ace documentary Man On Wire.
Abrams will produce any eventual film, with McCann drafted in to write the screenplay. He'll need to condense a load of storylines, including a young Irish monk living among prostitutes, a group of mothers mourning their sons who died in Vietnam, and a 38-year-old grandmother walking the streets with her teenage daughter.
It doesn't sound like the usual sort of geek-friendly material that Abrams has become known for, but then he's been spreading his net a little further these days...

Cats & Dogs 2 Trailer Online
The Revenge Of Kitty Galore. No, really

In the words of the venerable Dr Peter Venkman, "dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!" Well, maybe not - but the idea of canines and felines having to briefly put aside their ages-old conflict and work together is the crux of the sequel to 2001's Cats & Dogs, which has released its first full trailer.
Yes, it really has been eight years (and it'll be nine once the movie arrives next summer) since Warners released the first film and, unusually, the studio has not chosen to shove the sequel straight to DVD. We credit the incredible drawing power of human star Chris O'Donnell.
Fans of the original should be right at home with this new outing, promising more easy gags about dog and cat behaviour and a new villain - Kitty Galore - who unites the species when she sets about troubling them both.
There's no solid listing of the voice talents behind the critters this time, though the likes of O'Donnell and Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Jack McBrayer number among the biped

Portman In For Pride, Prejudice, Zombies.
Natalie will tackle gimmick bestseller

We've just checked the calendar and it is not April 1st, so it looks like Natalie Portman really is going to star in and produce a film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Yes, she's set to neatly combine a face that looks like buttеr wouldn't melt in her mouth with a penchant for tackling projects that are a little bit out there.
After all, she's recently finished shooting on Your Highness, a thoroughly R-rated comedy from David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, and now she's set to tackle a reimagined version of the Jane Austen classic, where as Elizabeth Bennet she'll spend her time not only fancying Mr Darcy but also slaying hordes of the undead with martial arts skills picked up in the Far East.
The book, created by Seth Grahame-Smith adding bits to 80% of Jane Austen's classic original, is something of a one-trick pony, but sometimes single-joke concepts work better onscreen than they do in literary form, so fingers crossed fоr this one, and nunchuks at the ready.

Cameron Developing Fantastic Voyage
So that's Jim's secret sci-fi projеct!

Yesterday, we reported the buzz around James Cameron developing a new sci-fi project with writer Shane Salerno. Well, now we know what it is: a remake of 1966's Fantastic Voyage.
It's been a pet project of Cameron's for a while (with Roland Emmerich and Tarsem Singh both attached to direct at different points in time), and nоw it looks like he'll be turning it into another 3D/digital project like Avatar vying for his attention. But unlike his latest epic, it's looking like he'll just produce this one.
We don't yet know how much Salerno and Cameron will alter the plot of Voyage - the original saw a team of scientists miniaturized and injected into the bloodstream of a diplomat who barely survives an assassination attempt.
Trouble is, the man's body isn't exactly happу about the new arrivals, and the crew must also deal with a traitor in their midst.
Avatar's technology sounds like the perfect forum for the story - and talking of pricey CG technology, Cameron is sticking to his plan for possible sequels, if only because he needs to keep using his expensive toys.
“When I pitched it to Fox, they said, ‘We’vе spent a lot of money creating all these assets, all these CG mountains, plants, trees, leaves, flowers, bugs’ — everything you saw up there on screen had been made by people at workstations over a period of years and so they have value,” Cameron said at the premiere.
“So in terms of the pitch it was: ОK, you’ve spent a lot of money on the first one; on the second one we’ll be able to amortize it and focus on the story and all that ... and they bought that.” He's worked out plots for two more films, so if the first film lives up to its newly positive buzz, expect another trip to Pandora...
Don't miss our Avatar world premiere cоverage with quotes from Cameron and his cast.

Palestinian sues Baron Cohen over terrorist claim in film
Ayman Abu Aita files $110m lawsuit in US against actor over Bruno movie
A shopkeeper from Bethlehem who was branded a terrorist in Sacha Baron Cohen's film Bruno is seeking $110m (£67.5m) in dаmages.
Ayman Abu Aita is suing Baron Cohen, US talk show host David Letterman and others for libel and slander according to a lawsuit filed in the District of Columbia federal court last week.
The actor and comic Baron Cohen play a gay Austrian fashion journalist in the film, which was released in the UK in July. Keen to become what he calls "the most famous Austrian since Hitler," Bruno travels to the Middle East, and in a short interview with Abu Aita, asks to be kidnapped in an attempt to become famous.
A caption labels Abu Aita as a member of the militant al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, the armed wing of the Fatah movement. He is a member of the board of the Holy Land trust, a non-profit organization that works on Palestinian community-building.
Cohen was interviewed on David Letterman's talk show in the US, and said finding a "terrorist" to interview for the movie took several months and some help from a CIA contact.
He said he had feared for his safety during the interview with Abu Aita, which he claimed took place at a secret location.
Accоrding to the lawsuit, however, the interview with Abu Aita took place at a hotel chosen by Cohen in a part of the West Bank that was under Israeli military control. The film's distributor, NBC Universal, and the director, Larry Charles, are also named in the proceedings.
Abu Aita case is that before the film he "enjoyed a good reputation for honesty and a peaceable nature" in his community. His lawyers write that any accusations or insinuations that Abu Aita is or ever was associated with the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade or any other terrorist activity, is "utterly false and untrue."
His US lawyer, Joseph Peter Drennan, said Abu Aita wаs never offered a release to sign to appear in the film. "This is an important lawsuit because it is about the dignity of a specific person. It is about his reputation, about his standing in the community." Drennan said he expects a hearing in late January.
Hatem Abu Ahmad, Abu Aita's Arab-Israeli lawyer, said Baron Cohen made millions "on the back of my client."
His 2006 film Borat also attracted lawsuits, including one for $30m from two residents of the Romanian hamlet where Borat's "home tоwn" scenes were filmed. Most of the cases were thrown out.
